Salle Manor House
Salle Manor is located about 10 miles from Norwich in East Anglia. It is owned by Sir John White BT. It is the largest farming operation in England. Major crops include sugar beets, and rapseed,from which canola oil is made. They have their own processing plant and market various products in England.
We met Sir John when we took several WWII veterans and families on a tour back to their old airbase "Attlebridge". Before we left I was contacted by Sir John who offered accommodations for all of us to stay with him.(for FREE) He was a wonderful host with a great sense of humor, and he didn't mind associating with American rifraf.
The Salle Church is located on the estate and predates the manor house by 600 years. It was built ca 1400-1450 by the grandparents of Anne Boleyn who are interred under the center aisle. There are rumors to the effect than Anne herself is buried with her head in a un-marked grave. The story was that Andrew Wyeth retrieved her body and secretly brought it to Salle.
Today, the church has only a monthly worship service, but the acoustics in the church are so wonderful, concert series are booked in over the year.
